I grew up in an unreligious society where churches were destroyed, but I read Ernst Renan's Life of Jesus, which suggests that Jesus was a man, not a God. It's a wonderful book written by a French historian and philologist. In the Soviet Union, Jews were considered a nationality because religion was banned. What I don't understand is why every religion hates Jews if Jesus was a Jew himself. But my question, of course, is not for the answer here. Thank you for the article.

I hear you, but you know? I was raised Catholic and never EVER did I hear any homilies about "the Jews" being the culprits. It was always Pharisees, the Sanhedrin, King Herod, the Romans who lorded it over the Jews by making them slaves and peons to be looked down on. Herod thought Jesus was going to take away his title as King. It was never anything about the people of Judea. I guess I was fortunate to grow up learning about the love of Christ Jesus toward everyone, of all colours, all races, both sexes, no matter their worldly stature, plus the importance of the Old Testament and also the New.
